Newcastle City Riders are a formally constituted voluntary organisation and in 2006 achieved a Lottery Grant through Awards for All of nearly £5,000 to help equip and publicise themselves in working towards their aim of supporting local cancer charities and by engaging people in healthy exercise.
Awards for All England is supported by the Arts Council England, the Big Lottery Fund, the Heritage Lottery Fund and Sport England.
Nick Sherwood, the original Chairman, said:
“We want to give people of all abilities the opportunity to get involved. It is not just a clique but an organised way for people who are reasonably fit to get together and raise money in a sociable atmosphere without feeling they have to be Lance Armstrong. ”
